Mr. Romie James Spearman (RJ) was born in Ingold, NC to the late Mr. Romie James Spearman, Sr. and Mrs. Katie Catherine (Sellars) Spearman on April 14, 1936. He departed this life on March 07, 2023.
RJ’s spiritual journey began at First Baptist Ingold Church, Ingold, NC and his formative spiritual foundation was fortified at the Kingdom Stewards Ministries, Virginia Beach, VA under the leadership of the Rev. Valencia Todd.
Romie James Spearman was educated in the Sampson County Schools where he graduated from Garland Colored High School. He furthered his educational journey in culinary arts once he joined the military. He moved to New Jersey for a short time and then moved to
Newburgh, NY before moving down to Virginia Beach, VA where he spent the last 8 years of his life.
Romie was a proud United States Army Man from 1953-1955 and served as a Line Cook where he explored his culinary visions in a variety of countries including Korea and Vietnam.
After serving this nation dutifully, Romie worked briefly at Ford Motor Company where he continued to
dream until his departure.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at St. Stephens AME Zion Church. Burial following the service at the Spearman Family Cemetery in Ingold, NC.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 1:00-5:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home in Garland, NC.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children; Ms. Karen LaRue Spearman of Garland, NC, Mr. Byron Jerome Spearman (Sabrina) of Virginia Beach, Va. Ms. Valeria Patise Jessup of Virginia Beach, VA, Mrs. Lynn Anita Spearman-Blissett (Deron) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Mr. Anthony James Spearman (Rose) of Hinesville, Ga.
Grandchildren: Jamel Bone, Phunayka Spearman, Denisha Boyd, Demoncee Storey, Isaiah Spearman, Alyse Spearman, Zaiante Johnson, Sydnie Lomax, Triniti Blissett and Javiana Blissett.
Great-Grandchildren: Gabrielle Barrington, Jamar Brooks, Kambrynn Bone, Reyonna Barrington, Kayden Bone, Malik Clark, Jaylee Spearman, Jayden (Buddy) Spearmen, Jordin Spearman, and Aliah Spearman
Siblings Maryzulema Spearman of Newburgh, NY, Ezra Wendell Spearman (Lillian) of Fayetteville, NC, Vernon Spearman (Lola) of Huntsville, AL, and Barbara Spearman Burns of Laurinburg, NC
He was formerly married to Mrs. Lynette J. Spearman and from their union, they birthed 5 children. He will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Romie James Spearman, Sr. and Mrs. Katie Catherine (Sellars) Spearman, his sisters, Ms. Jaqueline Spearman and Mrs. Doris Sisk, a brother Mr. Austin Spearman, and grandson, Matthew Spearman.
