Waitus Gary Merritt

Mr. Waitus Gary Merritt, 66, of 1466 Mote Rd., Harrells, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.

Waitus was born July 28, 1955, in Bladen County to Waitus I. Merritt and wife Mary Bordeaux Merritt. He worked for 30 years at International Paper Company, retired from the Forestry Industry as a Supervisor and then worked for B & K Coastal for 15 years. He is preceded in death by his father: Waitus I. Merritt, and brother: Richard Merritt.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Colly Chapel Church in Harrells. The Reverend Jim Woodruff will be officiating the service. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Waitus leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 46 years: Patricia “Pat” Tatum Merritt of the home, mother: Mary H. Bordeaux Merritt of Elizabethtown, children: Michelle and husband Jammie Keith of Harrells; Heather Merritt of Bladenboro, grandchildren: Jonas Monroe and wife Olivia; Megan Monroe and husband Filton; Lexie Monroe; and Will Mote, great-grandchildren: Caiyden Mitchell; Khalil Mitchell, brother: Tink Merritt of Harrells, two sisters: Connie Colie and husband Tommy of Hookerton; Betsy Mote of Harrells, his beloved dog: Mandy, and a host of nieces and nephews. Waitus was a hardworking, genuine, kind person who loved his wife, kids & grandkids very much.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
