Thomas Eldridge Mcphail

Mr. Thomas Eldridge McPhail, 97, formerly of Garland, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Dayspring of Wallace.

Thomas was born March 11, 1925, in Sampson County to the late Norma Pope McPhail and William Lester McPhail.  Mr. McPhail was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy McLelland McPhail, and two brothers: W. L. “Bill” McPhail, Jr., and Kenneth M. McPhail.  Thomas was a Navy Veteran, having served in WWII. Thomas graduated from NC State in 1950 with a BS degree in Agriculture Engineering.  He was the Town Manager of Red Springs, Smithfield, and Aulander for many years. He was the past Superintendent of Public Works for the town of Clinton. He was a former Commissioner of the town of Garland and a member of the Garland ABC Board for many years.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Garland Cemetery with Military Honors. The Rev. Ed Rouse will be officiating the service.

Mr. McPhail is survived by one daughter: Anna Jean Driggers of Durham, one son: Thomas E. McPhail Jr. and wife Kim of Nashville, TN, four grandchildren: Allen Driggers and wife Laura Smith of Sparta, TN; Trey McPhail and wife Rachael of Nashville, TN; Connor McPhail and Kayla Eiben of Cincinnati, OH; and Meghan McPhail of Nashville, TN, one great-granddaughter: Millie Driggers, and one brother: James “Jim” McPhail and wife Drew of Tarboro.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 10:00-10:45 AM, at Carter Funeral Home in Garland, prior to the graveside service.
