Stevie Lacy Jernigan, affectionately known as "Blue," passed away on February 19, 2025, in Kelly, North Carolina, surrounded by family. Born on January 28, 1968, in Sampson County, NC, Stevie lived a life dedicated to hard work and family, making significant contributions as a logger in the logging industry.
Stevie is survived by his children: Cortney Jernigan of Elizabethtown, Brandon Blackwell and his partner Nina of Autryville, Nickie Dabbs, and Scotty Cashwell of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Ella Grace Johnson, Easton Johnson, Bentley Cashwell, and Emerie Cashwell, who brought him immense joy. Stevie also leaves behind a very special little girl who will forever hold a big part of his heart.
Stevie also leaves behind his brother, Jerry Wayne Jernigan, and his beloved nephews, Austin Jernigan and Colby Jernigan. His former wife and caregiver, Cornelia Hester of Kelly, provided unwavering support during his final days.
Stevie was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry "Nub" Jernigan and Linda Adams Jernigan, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became.
In his own words, Stevie expressed heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care he received from Liberty Hospice, especially from Nurse Tracy, stating, "My last days were some of my best days, and I thank ya'll for that."
Stevie Lacy Jernigan will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love for his family, his faithfulness to his friends that described him as strong, straight-forward, witty, and brotherly. Stevie was a determined man, and lived life "His Way". That strong determination could be seen by many in his final days.
The family will receive friends at the home of Cornelia & Tim Hester: 234 Natmore Road, Kelly, NC 28448.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Colly Chapel Church, 3857 Mote Road, Harrells, NC. Interment to follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at Colly Chapel Church.
