SSG Shawn Marquis Boykin, 31, of 3200 Winesap Road, Hope Mills, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at his residence.

Shawn was born May 19, 1992, in Washington, DC to Jibril Boykin and Tanya Wilson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 04, 2023, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland. Interment to follow in the Hayes Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Rose Hill.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, November 03, 2023, from 1:00-6:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland.

SSG Shawn Boykin graduated high school in 2010 and decided to join the United States Army soon after graduation. SSG Shawn Boykin has traveled to several different places throughout his military career, Georgia, France, Germany, and Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  After his retirement from the military he and his beloved dog “Onyx” relocated to Fayetteville North Carolina where he purchased his first home.  SSG Shawn Boykin became a member of the Potters House Christian Fellowship Church of Hope Mills where he got saved and asked Jesus into his life.  SSG Shawn Boykin has worked on outreach efforts where he would share the Gospel with others in the community.

SSG Shawn Boykin loved his family, especially his baby girl Ari.  SSG Boykin loved family gatherings, nice cars and nothing got in the way of his fishing.  SSG Boykin just loved to go fishing if he had the time and the day was nice you would find him out at a nearby lake doing what he loved to do. SSG Shawn Boykin also loved to listen to old-school slow jams and play his Xbox games.  Since purchasing his home, he had started to get into landscaping and home improvements. SSG Boykin was also attending the University of Phoenix to obtain his bachelor’s degree in logistical management.

There are no words that can describe the loss that we feel.  How much we’ll miss your smile, and your laughter in our ears, your absence leaves a hole in us we are filling with tears.  God never makes a mistake.  SSG Boykin your presence was a light and a joy.  To God Be All the Glory!!

SSG Boykin is preceded in death by his late wife Aubrey Diamond Boykin.

SSG Boykin leaves to cherish his smile and memory:  His Daughter Ari Pendleton of Glen Burnie, MD, His father Jibril Boykin of Laurel, MD,  his mother Tanya Wilson of Indianapolis, IN, his grandparents, Jahalia and Frankie Imes of Fayetteville, NC, and Omega and Frank Summers of Indianapolis, IN, his Aunts, “Eesha” Felicia Imes-Griffin of Fayetteville, NC, Laquesha Stewart of Indianapolis, IN, and Camille and Michael Stowe of Winterville, his uncles, Joshua and Troy Tinley of New Brunswick, NJ, along with a host of great Aunts and Uncles, cousins and friends.
