Ronald Glenn Murphy, Sr.

April 4, 1957 — April 26, 2024

Harrells

Ronald Glenn Murphy, Sr. was called home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2024. He lived sixty-seven (67) precious years. Ronald was born in Sampson County (Clinton, N.C.). He is preceded in death by his father, the late Norman Buster Murphy and his mother, the late Georgianna Johnson Treadwell Murphy. He was the youngest of four children. Ronald joined Murphy Chapel AME Church. He served in the capacity of Assistant Treasurer, a member of the Trustee Board and the Male Choir.

He attended Bladen County Public Schools. He graduated from East Bladen High School in 1975. During his attendance at East Bladen, he played football. His position was defensive tackle.

Upon graduating from high school, Ronald joined his father and brother to be part of the Norman Murphy and Sons’ Trucking (Logging) Company.  Later, He ventured out to establish the R & N Trucking (Logging) Company. He continued in trucking and became a trucker for Murphy Farms until he was injured and had to retire. After his injury, he would assist family members and others in various capacities as to how they could obtain their licensure (CDL). In addition, He would share his knowledge about the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment.

His high school athletic participation led him to form and open an athletic club in the community. Where members of the community and others could come, use athletic equipment and improve their weightlifting. Ronald won several trophies during his time in weightlifting and participation in championships. In the Harrells Fire and Rescue Powerlifting championships. He won First Place (1980); Second Place (1981); Third Place (Lifting 242 lbs., 1982). In the Lundy’s Packing Company Powerlifting Championship, He won Second Place SHW Class (1981).

In 2004, our mother suffered a stroke and was admitted to Elizabethtown Nursing Center. She was there for seven years. During that time, our brothers (Norman and Ronald) were very much involved in her care; of which Ronald was a daily visitor at the center.

Ronald’s hobbies included watching Sunday and Monday night football games, cooking and preparing delicious food. Especially, making soup and barbequing (pig). While spending time with family and friends. We fondly remember him for his ability to make us laugh and his funny jokes.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Amy Burton Murphy; his sons, Kelvin Jaron Murphy, Marcus O’Bryan Murphy and Ronald Glenn Murphy, Jr. Harrells. N. C.; the grandchildren, Chloe Murphy, Jermiah Murphy, and Harmony Murphy; his sisters, Shirley Murphy Turnage (Curtis, deceased) Glenn Dale, Maryland; Melba Murphy Harris (Thomas) Herndon, Virginia; and his Brother Norman Murphy (Lizzie)  Harrells, N.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  We will miss my husband, your father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend but we will always cherish the memories that we formed with our dearly beloved Ronald.
