Portia "Pip" Faith Mckoy

Portia Faith McKoy (Pip), age 79, of Garland, NC, was born March 30, 1945,to the late Alexander McKoy & Josephine Boone McKoy. She departed this life at home on July 16, 2024, in Garland, NC. She grew up in the Garland Community area and attended the Old Garland Colored School and the Clear Run School. She became a member of Garland First Baptist Church at the age of 12 years old under the leadership of  Reverend J L Williamson. Later she became an active member under the leadership of the late Dr. Rev. Samuel McDonald Jr., where she was a very faithful worker on the Usher Board. She enjoyed feeding the Pastor whenever it was her time, and doing different things wherever she was needed until Dr. Samuel McDonald left. She continued doing her duties under the leadership of the now former Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Louis Hackett, until her health declined. Being homebound she still did whatever she could do, always willing to help in church and  the community, especially for all the children in the neighborhood. She always carried that smile, and said if there’s anything that I can do for you, just let me know. If you need me, let me know, or call me. She was always willing to help others, very concerned for others, especially when it came to handling business, she would say, come here and I will help you. She was a very special person, a joy to be around. She worked at Fleetline of Garland, then it became Garland Shirt Factory. She left there and started doing different jobs in Clinton as a seamstress. She later returned to her favorite place, Garland Shirt Factory, until her health declined.

 In addition to her parents, Portia is preceded in death by one son: James Daniel Mckoy, one daughter: Darlene McKoy, one grandson: Timothy L. McKoy, 3 brothers: Edward D. McKoy; Harry R. McKoy; Glenn D. McKoy, and one sister: Ivery Gibbs.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland, NC. Reverend Sandra Spell will be officiating the service. Burial to follow at Garland Community Cemetery, Hill Circle Road, Garland, NC.

Portia leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters: Marie D. McKoy of Garland; Evangelist Irlene M. Johnson (Livest) of Garland; Josephine McKoy of Garland; Lawanda McKoy of Garland, one adopted son: Joseph Vann of Garland, 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and other family members, and friends of the community. 

A Viewing will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 1:00-6:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland, with the family present from 5:00-6:00 PM.
