Norman "Buddy" Jefferson Carter Jr.

Garland

Norman  Jefferson Carter, Jr, 80, of Garland went to meet his heavenly father on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at his home.

Norman was preceded in death by; Norman Jefferson Carter, Sr. (father), Sarah Ann Rich Carter (mother), and Loreen Carter Harris (sister).

Norman was a native of Sampson County where he graduated from Garland High School.  He worked as a farmer to support his family while attending college and obtaining his degree from UNC Pembroke.  He then found a satisfying career as an educator and counselor at Montclair in Fayetteville, Clinton City Schools, Vocation Rehabilitation and Cumberland County.  After many successful years, he retired from Fayetteville Community College. Norman also worked alongside his family to help Garland prosper by operating the Western Auto and local grocery store.  He served as a Garland town commissioner and on the Local Education Board. Norman was a faithful member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Garland Baptist Church where he loved to sing and share the word of his savior with his church family and others.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 07, 2021, at Garland Baptist Church in Garland, by the Rev. Ed Rouse, Rev. Dewey Ball, and Rev. Ralph Carter Jr., Interment to follow the service at the Garland Cemetery.

Norman leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Gertrude Carter of Garland.  He is also survived by two sons, Norman Jefferson “Jeff” Carter, III (Marcie) of Garner, NC, and Bryan Phillip Carter (Misty) of Roseboro, NC, grandchildren he adored; Alisha Lyle (Adam), Whitney Smith (Andrew), Corey Smith (Kayla), Bryley Carter, Braylen Carter, one great-grandchild; Alyssa Lyle, his loving sisters; Christine Rich, Angela Nelson, and Mabel Woodlief, and  Clay Rich. A host of nieces and nephews.   Also left grieving are the many wonderful friends that he considered family at White Lake Camp Clearwater. Norman was preceded in death by; Norman Jefferson Carter, Sr. (father), Sarah Ann Rich Carter (mother), and Loreen Carter Harris (sister).

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 06, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Garland Baptist Church in Garland.
