Mr. Rufus C. Johnson Sr. 87 of 10014 NC Hwy. 53 East Kelly, NC died Friday, May 31, 2013 at Bladen Co. Hospital in Elizabethtown, NC.
Mr. Johnson was born November 27, 1925 in Bladen Co., the son of the late Governor Jarvis Burnie and Maggie McAllister. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Johnson, Curtis Johnson, and a sister Zadie Williams.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 06, 2013 at Zion Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, by the Reverend Jarvis Johnson. Burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Edith Mae Johnson, four daughters, Vergilene James of Temple Hills, Md., Edith Ann Dunning of Fayetteville, Arleen Johnson of Delran, NJ, Darlene Pone of Jamestown, NC, five sons, Rufus Johnson Jr. of Harrells, Jarvis Johnson of Durham, Walter Johnson of Paterson, N.J., Theodore Johnson of Elizabethtown, NC, Pernel Johnson of Chesterfield, Va., one sister Cathenia Burnie of Durham, 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 05, 2013 from 2:00 P.M.-6:00P.M. at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
