Mildred Ann Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Whiteville, North Carolina. Born on October 24, 1947, Mildred dedicated her life to her family and her work as a seamstress at the Garland Shirt Factory in Garland, North Carolina.

Mildred is survived by her devoted husband, Leroy Smith, with whom she shared countless cherished moments in their home. She was the proud mother of three daughters: Diane Dabbs of Garland; Judy Hall and her husband George of Garland; and Michelle Alvarez and her husband Carlos of Garland. She is survived by her sister, Betty Smith of Garland. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy, as she was blessed with three grandchildren: Daniel Montoya and his wife Shanyn; Josh Montoya; and Justin Dabbs. Mildred's family also includes three great-grandchildren: Pamela Dabbs (Alonso), Linsey Dabbs, Kaitlyn Alvarez, and Addie Dabbs. In addition, she had the privilege of welcoming great-great-grandchildren: Addie Dabbs, Cecily Montoya, Alfredo Sanchz, Linda Dabbs, Corina Knowles, Alex Dabbs,  Joshua Mecen, and Andy, who all will carry forward her spirit and love.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Nettie Smith, her brother Joe Smith, and her sisters Mattie Bordeaux and Gray Thompson. The legacy she leaves behind is one of warmth, dedication, and love, which touched the lives of all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at her viewing on March 18, 2025, at the Church of God of Prophecy in Garland from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow, beginning at 3:00 PM. Mildred will then be laid to rest in interment at Garland Cemetery at 4:30 PM.

Mildred Ann Smith will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and her community. Her loving spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives she influenced so profoundly.
