Marceline (Howell) Herring

Marceline Herring passed away on January 25th surrounded by her loving family.  Marceline was born May 31, 1933 to Silas Egbert and Hattie Hoffman Howell in Garland, NC.  She attended school in Garland and married her true love, Robert Thomas Herring, of Tomahawk, NC in 1951.  They remained married for almost 50 years.  Marcie cared for her husband devotedly throughout his 17 year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Marcie and Robert moved to Clinton, NC in 1978.  Marceline then began working at Sampson Regional Medical Center where she formed many treasured friendships which would last throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, Robert, her loving son-in-law, John Nelson III and brother-in-law Jack Arthur.  She is survived by her 3 daughters—Nell (Dewey) Hudson, Jane (Gary) Kroeger and Robbin Nelson, her Grandchildren Kate (Ben) Cheek, Blake (Jenna) Hudson, John ( Brittany) Nelson, Melissa (Christian) Tyson, Alex Kroeger and Lauren Kroeger, her Great Grandchildren, Ella Saunders, Adalyn Cheek, Emily Cheek, Cameron Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Coleman Hudson and Oliver Nelson.  She is survived by her siblings Bettie Arthur, John (Mary Elizabeth) Howell and Pete (Nancy) Howell and a number of loving nieces and nephews.

Marcie always felt that she lived a blessed life and spoke frequently of this feeling.  She enjoyed sewing, working in her azalea garden, fashion, painting with pastels, and spending time with her beloved family.  Many individuals were blessed to have a pastel portrait or hand sewn bridal doll by Marcie.  She enjoyed keeping in touch with her friends and family later in life with frequent calls on her cell phone.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Carter Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M.   A private interment will be held at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Harrells, NC.
