Louise (Cashwell) Carter

February 18, 1929 — May 7, 2018

Mrs. Louise Cashwell Carter, age 89 died peacefully at Southwood Nursing Center on Monday, May 07, 2018.

Louise was born in Sampson County on February 18, 1929 to the late David Cashwell and Edna Robinson Cashwell. She was a lifelong resident of Garland until she moved to Southwood Nursing Center in Clinton in March of 2014. She was married to Joe Carter until his death in 1988. Louise married Paul Carter in 1991.

Among the places that Louise was employed was Fleetline Industries in Garland.  She also worked at other plants and at Capital Department Store in Fayetteville.  It was in 1973 that she found her passion in work at Sampson Regional Hospital in Clinton. She was a switchboard operator and eventually was named the Communication Director.  Sampson Regional became a second family and home to her. While meeting the needs of those that entered the hospital and taking “all those calls” she was able to make lifelong friendships with many employees there.  She worked for thirty six years until health problems forced her to leave a place she so loved.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 09, 2018 at Garland Baptist Church by the Reverend Ed Rouse and Reverend Hampton Faircloth.  Burial will follow in the Garland Cemetery.

Louise is survived by two daughters, Madonna Morris and husband Frank of Garland and Sharon Long and husband Will of Southport. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Ann McLelland, Scott Smith and wife Mary, Christy Thompson, Michael Smith and Jennifer Little and husband Jay.  She also had two great grandchildren, June Claire and Martha Little. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Joe, beloved daughter Dottie, her brother Robert Cashwell, her parents, Dave and Edna Cashwell and second husband, Paul Carter.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 09, 2018 from 1:00P.M.-1:50P.M, in the church fellowship hall before the service.
