Juanita Ruby (Treadwell) Randall

Juanita lived a life of excellence and distinction, steeped in love for her family and marked by an unwavering dedication to her career.

Born on April 20, 1952, to Bertha Mae Armwood and Edward Stanley Treadwell, Juanita (more affectionately known as Nita) was the sixth of twelve siblings, renowned as one of the most vibrant and outgoing members of her family.

At 23, Juanita joined the military, following in the footsteps of her big brother, Charles, and embarked on an esteemed Army career that spanned more than two decades, from July 1975 to June 1999. She traveled extensively, serving at various duty stations including Ft. McClellan, Ft. Monroe, Ft. Myer, and internationally in Germany and Panama. Rising to the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major (SGM) E9, she proudly served as an Enlisted Aide to General Officers, a position that showcased her exceptional professionalism and precision.

Revered for her culinary mastery and meticulousness, Juanita earned prestigious military honors including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, all of which epitomized her sterling military career. And though she walked in the company of highly decorated officers, such as the former Secretary of State, the late General Colin Powell, she held everyone in equal esteem, embodying humility and respect.

In December 1983, while serving in Heidelberg, W. Germany, Juanita met the love of her life, Robert Randall, also an Army service member, and wed three years later in May 1986. Their love story culminated in a 38-year marriage. Although she did not have children of her own, Juanita considered herself blessed to have the love of Robert’s two sons, Roderick and Roland, whom she adored. Moreover, she showered her nieces and nephews with love, treating them as her own, and making every one of them feel as though they were “the special one.” Because in her eyes, they were.

Juanita's compassion, integrity, and strong values defined her, while her passions for reading, cooking, and running reflected her zest for life. She was a bright light in the lives of those who knew her best, and her kindness and selflessness made strangers feel like friends. Even amidst the challenges of her final year, her unshakeable faith in God inspired others to be their best selves.

Juanita fought valiantly through her illness; she did not “go gentle into that good night.” She was a fighter, a true soldier, through and through, who understood the art of battle. She remained resilient in the toughest of times, arming herself with the sword of the spirit. Her faith in God never waned nor grew weary. She loved the Lord and ran a good race.

On December 28, 2023, Juanita departed this life, leaving a void impossible to fill. Our sister shined with the radiance of the Ruby she was, but she will always be remembered as our Cultured Pearl.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bertha Mae Armwood and Edward Stanley Treadwell, her beloved aunts, Sadie Johnson and Mary Good; sisters, Sandra Lane and Glenda Treadwell; and brother, Charles Treadwell.

Juanita is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Randall and his two sons, Roderick Randall (Petra) and Roland Randall (Jackie); her siblings, Deems Treadwell, Wayne Treadwell, Dwight Treadwell, Gretha Brunson, Mattie Parker, Jackie Treadwell (Doris), and Michael Treadwell (Lolita); as well as a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will cherish her memory forever.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 06, 2024, at St. Stephen AME Zion Church in Garland, NC.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, January 05, 2024, from 2:00-6:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home, 111 N. Ingold Ave., Garland, NC.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, at a later date.
