John Harry Finocchiaro

January 10, 1943 — June 6, 2017

John Harry Finocchiaro, 74, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at his home in Harrells, North Carolina, following a fight with cancer. He was born on January 10, 1943, in Swedesboro, New Jersey, son of the late Harry and Josephine (Monaco) Finocchiaro.

He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Rebecca (Mathews) Finocchiaro; his son, John Eugene Finocchiaro and his companion Amy Stone; six brothers: Harry Finocchiaro, Joe Finocchiaro, Philip Finocchiaro, Michael Finocchiaro, Alfred Finocchiaro, and Steven Finocchiaro, all of New Jersey; and five sisters; Sandra Finocchiaro and Rose Finocchiaro of New Jersey; Mary Kane of Mississippi, Marian Bushey of Massachusetts, and Anne Rice of Maryland; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends.

John was predeceased by his brother, Marty Finocchiaro.

In his early years, John worked on the family farm in Swedesboro.   After graduating from Swedesboro High School in 1961, he served proudly in the United States Coast Guard from 1964 to 1968. He met his wife, Rebecca Mathews, through friends, and they were married in 1968 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Wilmington, N.C.

After his discharge from the Coast Guard, John started Superior Millwork, Inc., in Wilmington, N. C., in January 1975, which he and wife operated until May, 2006. He took great pride in his business and truly cherished the friends he made during his time in Wilmington. After retirement John and Rebecca relocated to the Harrells Community where they established Deerpath Farm, a muscadine vineyard. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and working in the vineyard.

Visitation for family and close friends will be Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Carter Funeral Home in Garland, N.C.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at the Transfiguration Catholic Church in Wallace, N.C.  Burial will be at Carter Cemetery, Garland, N.C., immediately following the funeral service.
