John "Jay Byrd" Byrd

Bridgeport, Conn.

Mr. John Leon “Jay Byrd” Byrd 86 of 2875 Main St., formerly of Roseboro, died recently at Northbridge Health Center in Bridgeport, Conn.

Mr. Byrd was born on April 07, 1932 in Metter, Ga the son of the late Ulysses & Elouise Byrd. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Byrd, sister, Rosa Byrd, brother, Johnnie Byrd, and a daughter, Dorothy Francis.

During his early years in the Roseboro, he lived in what was known as Jacks Alley, he helped raise six children and helped raise their children.  His longtime companion the late Gladys Anderson, he was a loving step-father and a grandfather. He loved to watch wrestling, lift weights and exercise. He loved to read and tell stories about the different places he has worked over the many years, along with finding the places on maps

He was a retired supervisor for Shelton Underground Cable Company.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the Roseboro-Snow Hill Cemetery, by Minister Luther Cason officiating.

Mr. Byrd is survived by four step-daughters, Betty Murray of Fayetteville, Willa Atkins of Fayetteville, Carolyn Williams of Fayetteville, and Enice “Bud” Adam of Charlotte, one step-son, Willie Charles Anderson of Burlington, one special nephew, T-Bird of Waterbury, Conn., and special niece, Neshawn Bird of Charlotte, and a sister-in-law Sarah Bird of Bridgeport, Conn., several nieces and nephews and friends. 15 step-grandchildren, and a host of step-great-grandchildren. A special friend WS Howard of Roseboro.
