James "Popcorn" Samuel Boykin Jr.

Mr. James “Popcorn” Samuel Boykin Jr., 68, of 90 N. Belgrade Ave., Garland passed away Monday, May 03, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Boykin was born July 10, 1952 in Sampson Co. the son of the late James Samuel Boykin Sr. and Doris Mae Treadwell Boykin formerly of Garland, NC.  James was preceded in death by two sisters: Wanda J. Martin formerly of Garland and Jannie Marie Boykin formerly of Maryland.  James graduated from Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park NY. He attended Shaw University and also State University of New York at New Paltz after which Mr. Boykin  served in the United States Air Force.  He then went on to work at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, Schindler Elevator in Clinton NC, Senior Citizen Center in Garland NC and other various jobs throughout his life. He was blessed to call Garland home for the last 20 years. James was a faithful member of St. Stephens AME Zion Church in Garland NC.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 08, 2021 at the Garland Community Cemetery, by the Rev. Hugh Miller.

He leaves in memory one sister: Shirley Boykin of Garland and one brother: Donald Boykin of Glenburnie, Md.

A public viewing will be on Friday, May 07, 2021 from 1:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at Carter Funeral Home Garland.
