James "Cowboy" Earl Townsend

Mr. James Earl “Cowboy” Townsend, 75, of 962 Airport Road, Garland, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

James was born February 05, 1946, in Bladen County to the late: Lizzie Mae Smith. James was employed for many years as a Tree Topper in the Forestry Industry. He is preceded in death by his son: James Ray Carr and two sisters, Glenda Simpson, Dorothy Smith, and a brother, Jerry Smith.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 03, 2022, at Garland Community Cemetery. The family will meet at Carter Funeral Home before the service, from 1:30-2:30.

“Cowboy” leaves to cherish his memory one daughter: Samantha Kerr of Fayetteville, six sons: Bryan Carr of Clinton; Ryan Carr of Harrells; Stanley Carr of Garland; Mario Townsend of Fayetteville, Shaw Townsend of San Diego, CA; James Wilbur Townsend of Seattle, WA, 4 sisters: Ann Smith of Garland; Willadean Ejiofor of White Oak; Bernice Wilcox of Garland; Alberta Johnson (Ray) of Garland, and 2 brothers: Paul Smith (Mary Joyce) of Garland,  Burnis Smith Jr. of Clinton, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 02, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
