Hazel Jane (Underwood) Treadwell

Mrs. Hazel Jane Underwood Treadwell, 91, of 2322 Old US Hwy. 701, (Ingold Community), Clinton, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at her residence.

Hazel was born April 20, 1932, in Sampson County to the late James Underwood and his wife, Vada Bryant Underwood. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Edward Treadwell, son: Donald Ray Underwood, great-grandson: Joe Ravenell, three sisters: Elizabeth Underwood; Helen Vann; Doris Underwood, five brothers: Herbert Underwood; Harold Underwood; Henry Underwood; Joe Underwood; and Marty Underwood. Hazel worked for many years as a custodian in the public school system.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Little Piney Grove Baptist Church, Clinton. Reverend Alice Boykin will be officiating the service. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Hazel leaves to cherish her memory one daughter: Gloristeen Owens of the home, 6 grandchildren: Darrian Owens of Queens, NY; Vincent Sumpter of Allwood, PA; Nicole Owens of Clinton, NC; Cassandra Owens of Brooklynn, NY; Cathy Ravenell of Columbia, SC, special niece: Sandra Underwood, Manchester, CT, special nephew: Jerl Underwood of Clinton, NC, 16 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law: Linda Underwood of Clinton, NC, 3 sister-in-law’s: Gloria Underwood of Clinton, NC; Ella Underwood of Wadesboro, NC; Mary Underwood of Rose Hill, NC, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 1:00-6:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00-6:00 PM, at Carter Funeral Home in Garland, NC.
