Hattie Merritt Velarde

Hattie Bell Velarde, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, joined her Lord and Savior on March 2, 2025, in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. She was born on August 20, 1946, to the late Murdock and Rosie Mae Merritt. In addition to her parents, Hattie is preceded in death by her beloved husband: Robert Velarde, two sons: Ricky Blackburn, and Robert Blackburn, and two sisters: Daisy Jernigan, and Doris Smith.

Hattie leaves to cherish her memory, one son: Ronald Velarde (Amber Gilsson) of Elizabethtown, one sister: Zelly Byrd (Zack Byrd) of Elizabethtown, a companion of 34 years: Bobby Simmons, and two close grandchildren: Raelynn Tayte Velarde, and Hyleigh Brackett, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members that she held close and dear.

Hattie was known for her dedicated work ethic, cleaning various companies in the evenings, and her work at her beauty shop. Where she brought joy, laughter, haircuts, and perms to all who knew her. In her free time, she enjoyed attending church, watching her granddaughter Raelynn, spending time with her loved ones, and cooking for everyone. 

Hattie will be remembered for her warm smile, kind heart, unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, her endless love for family, and friends, and her fried rice and biscuits. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, March 06, 2025, at Colly Chapel Church, 3857 Mote Road, Harrells, NC. Reverend Jim Woodruff and Reverend Mitchell Britt will be officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service on Thursday, March 06, 2025, from 2:30-3:00 PM.
