Harvey James Herring

Harvey James Herring was born December 17, 1944, to the late Elliott Lee and the late Lizzie Karo Herring of Bladen County, NC. He departed this life Saturday, September 11, 2021, in Bladen County Hospital, Elizabethtown, NC.

He attended school in Bladen County and became a talented and skilled young man. His first job was with Ernest Smith Farms in Garland, NC. Then he worked several years at Alamac Knits (west Point Pepperell) in Clinton, NC. His joyful personality led him to meet and touch the lives of many through work and pleasure. He became the Garland area Handyman that could fix anything, especially in the plumbing area. His expertise and ability spoke for him. Being self-employed was a joy that he loved and he remained active until the end. Harvey loved reading the Bible and often would talk on the word of God which was developed through his home training as a youth.

He was preceded to the grave by his parents and seven siblings: Elizabeth Lee, Eddie Lee, Pauline, Willie Lee, Elliot Roosevelt, Roy Festus Herring, Arletha Mann, and a special nephew Vick L. Herring.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Powell-Wright Cemetery, 855 Old Fayetteville Road, Garland. The Reverend Madeline Herring will be officiating the service.

Doris Williams (Wayne), Tampa, FL. Jeffrey Murphy, Fayetteville, NC. Two special nephews, Tyrone Herring, Clinton, NC, and Megale Crumpler, Garland, NC. A host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and an abundance of other friends and associates will treasure his memory and the friendships they had with him.

A walk-thru viewing will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 1:00-6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
