Mrs. Gladys Lamb Carter 86 of 169 Davenport Ave., formerly of Garland, died Saturday, October 01, 2011 at Advanced Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Haven Connecticut.
Mrs. Carter was born on September 27, 1925 to the late John D. Lamb and Lucille Armwood Lamb. She was a long time member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church in New Haven, CT. and member of the usher board. She was employed as a seamstress at Henry Richard’s Pocketbook Factory for many years. Upon retiring and moving back to Garland, NC she became a member of the Garland First Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess as well as an usher.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her loving husband Cleo A. Carter, and her sister, Mary Lamb Swain, Lula Dancy Lamb Johnson and Margaret Lamb McMillan, nephews, Freddie Lamb, Charles ‘Chick” Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, and Jeremiah Swain, Jr., nieces Helen Lamb and Mary A. Jones.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00P.M. Saturday, October 08, 2011 at Garland First Baptist Church, by Dr. Louis Hackett. Burial will follow in the Garland Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Carter is survived by step-daughter, Brenda Cromartie(Willie Ray) of Clinton, NC, Gerald Johnson(Ina) of Garland, NC, Wanda J. James(Theady) of Fayetteville, NC, Tracy R. Lamb(Evelyn) and Peggie J. Caldwell of New Haven, CT, Eva D. Plumber of Mt. Dora, Fl., George E. Swain(Lynette) of Layton UT, Lena M. Hollingsworth(Randolph) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Lillie B. Swain Cole of Atlanta, GA., Kathy McMillan Roberts(Patrick) and Pearl Bryant both of Philadelphia, PA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The public will be received Friday, October 07, 2011 from 1:00P.M.-7:00P.M. with family present from 6:00P.M.-7:00P.M.
