Franklin R. Purdie

July 16, 1934 — February 29, 2016

Mr. Franklin Roosevelt Purdie 81 of 2613 Martin Luther King Dr. Elizabethtown, NC, died Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Whiteville, NC.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Pilgrim Hill Missionary Baptist Church 685 Elkton Rd., Clarkton, NC.

Franklin Purdie was born to the dearly departed James and Daisy Purdie, July 16, 1934 in Bladen County, North Carolina. He received his education at Booker T. Washington High School. After completing school he joined the United States Army. Upon completing an honorable discharge from the Army, Franklin relocated to Brooklyn, NY where he married Annice Miller and started his family. Franklin retired from Con-Edison Electric Company in New York City in 1980. After retirement he returned to his home of Bladen County and remarried Blanchie McKoy (deceased).

Franklin became a member of Pilgrim Hill Missionary Baptist church at an early age. Franklin loved to spread the word of the Lord. He would preach the word whenever he had a chance. He brought so much joy and laughter with his delightful sense of humor.

Franklin is survived by his four sons; Frankie Purdie, Anthony Purdie, Garry Purdie, and Radford Purdie; one daughter, Debbie Purdie; Two step-children; Willie Washington and Lanore Washington (deceased). Ten grandchildren; Giovann Purdie, Rameek Brown, Shakia Purdie, Tia McAllister, Ziquanna Roy, Jerell Purdie, Garyelle Purdie, Anna Purdie, Joshua Purdie, Denim Purdie, four great-grandchildren, one living brother James Purdie (Arletha Purdie) One Sister-Law Mary Purdie and a host of nieces, nephew, family member and friends.
