Frankie Lee Purdie

October 31, 1959 — October 19, 2016

Frankie Lee Purdie, was born October 31, 1959 to Annice Marie Purdie and the late Frank Purdie at Cumberland Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He was the eldest of five children. As a child, Frankie was mild-mannered and easy going. He was very congenial to all he met. He was very protective of his younger siblings.

Affectionately called “Yank”, Frankie received his formal education in the State of New York’s public school system. He graduated from George Westinghouse Vocational High School in 1977 where in addition to the academic curriculum he studied dentistry.

Frankie was a great lover of sports, especially basketball which he excelled on the court with his amazing jump shot. His athletic ability and talent was rewarded when he received a basketball scholarship to attend Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He attended for two years then returned to New York to seek employment. He had a son, Giovann with his childhood sweetheart, Juanita Baird.

Frankie was employed for several years on the trading floor at the Commodity Exchange Inc., (COMEX) in the World Trade Center in the Financial District of New York City.

In the late 1990’s Frankie relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina where he met and married his wife Wanda.

He worked at Fort Bragg Army Base and later in Elizabethtown with Interior Woods Furnishing in the production department.

Frankie was a humble, caring and loving family orientated man. He was extremely dedicated to getting his family and friends together and spending quality time with them. He was fun-loving and enjoyed a great laugh and talking “mess”.  He kept up with current events, and enjoyed cooking. He would give if he had, without hesitation and would expect nothing in return.

On October 19, 2016, at Highsmith Rainey Specialty Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Our Heavenly Father called him home to rest.

Frankie was predeceased by his father, Frank Purdie.
