Evelyn Chestnutt

God in his Divine wisdom called from this world of pain to a place of peace and eternal rest, Sister Evelyn Imes Chestnutt early Friday morning May 13, 2016 at her home in Clinton, NC.  Funeral service will be held at Snow Hill Baptist Church in Ivanhoe, Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM.  Evelyn was the daughter of the late Wesley Imes and Maggie Henry Fennell of Ivanhoe, NC.  She was raised by her Loving Grand Mother the late Emma Imes of Ivanhoe, NC.  She received her education in Sampson County.  She later married James Dudley Chestnutt of Clinton, NC, who preceded her in death.  Evelyn worked as a Domestic in Maryland and as a Nurse’s Aide in Peekskill, NY before becoming a Devoted Homemaker to her Husband and Children.  She joined Snow Hill Baptist Church at an early age and attended faithfully until relocating to New York with her Husband.  Upon returning to North Carolina in her later years, she attended her beloved Snow Hill as frequently as she could until her decline in health.  Evelyn was a Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and friend.
She leaves behind to cherish her wonderful life and memories, two Beloved and Cherished Daughters, Celestine Chestnutt and Carmen Chestnutt, both of Raleigh, NC.  One Beloved and Cherished Son, Antonio Chestnutt, of Brooklyn, NY and was met in Heaven by her Eldest Beloved and Cherished Son, Charles Chestnutt, Seven Adoring and Beloved Grandchildren, four Adoring and Beloved Great-grandchildren, three Beloved Sisters, Delores Bryant, Wanda Dickerson and Karen Washington of New Jersey, as well as many loving nieces, nephews along with a Host of cousins and other relatives and Friends.

The public will be received from 1:00 P.M.-6:00P.M. Thursday at Carter Funeral Home.

Weep not for me my family so dear
For I am not dead, just sleeping here
Remember, I was not yours, but God’s alone,
He loved me Best and he took me Home.
