Mr. Albie “AJ” Richard Johnson Jr., 70, of 180 Piney Woods Rd., formerly of Garland, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021, at The Laurels of Pender, in Burgaw, NC.

AJ was born May 11, 1951, in Sampson County. He is preceded in death by his parents: Albie Lee & Verbie Lee Johnson and one sister: Genève Langley. He was a retired volunteer fireman for the town of Garland.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Garland Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating.

AJ leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Frances Johnson of the home, one son: Rafael Johnson and wife Melissa of Roseboro, one grandson: Samuel Johnson, two step-sons: Timothy Piner of Burgaw; Wesley Piner and wife Desiree, one step-daughter: Angela Pine and husband Malcolm of Burgaw, two step-grandchildren: Aden Hargrove and Adam Hargrove, one sister: Phyllis Bradshaw and husband Bobby of Clinton, two brothers: Ned Johnson and wife Barbara of Delway; Jeremiah Johnson of Delway.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 1:00-6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.
